Jason the FedEx Pilot

Today was Jason's first day at FedEx, and he started his "system indoc." They go over their benefits and general company information for the first two weeks and then they break up and start their training on their airplane. They bid for the airplane on the first day, and Jason will be flying as a Memphis-based 777 First Officer. FedEx has never HIRED pilots straight into the 777, and most airlines you have to have many years in before you are able to fly this airplane. They told Jason that at 28, he will be the youngest pilot in FedEx history to fly this airplane! I am SO PROUD of him! We are unsure how much he will like the trips, and there is an 18-month wide body seat lock (so he will be on the 777 for at least 18-months). The trips for the 777 are very long (5-14 days) and cover the entire world (they call them "world tours"). He will spend a lot of time in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. He starts "class" on the 777 September 27th, so he will have about a month off to prepare for the several months of training that's coming! Here are some pictures and info on this airplane:

1) It is the world's largest twin jet, and in the passenger configuration can hold over 300 passengers!
2) It has a range of 4,900 nautical miles -- Basically it can fly direct Memphis to Hong Kong
3) It measures  209 feet long and has a wing-span of 212 feet!
4) It has a maximum cruise speed of 0.89 mach = 590 miles per hours!
5) It has an empty weight of 318,000 pounds and a max takeoff weight of 766,000 pounds ... That's a LOT of freight!

Here are some pictures! I can't wait to see his picture in the cockpit!

Thought, I'd post an update: Jason was excessed off the 777 in '14, but is currently waiting to go back to training on the 777! He loved the trips, the world travel, and the airplane!
